NASCAR FSWT: Mechanical Problems Sideline Query

24 October 1998

AVONDALE, Ariz., -- After winning his second consecutive Greased Lightning All-American 400 last weekend at Nashville Speedway, Freddie Query headed west to compete in this weekend's NASCAR Featherlite Southwest Series Tour event at Phoenix International Raceway.

During the first and only practice session before time trials, the No. 21 Greased Lightning/Red Line Oil team experienced mechanical problems. Upon further investigation, the team concluded the mechanical problems were severe enough to keep them from competing in the Checker Auto Parts 300.

"It's really disappointing for everyone involved," said Query. "We had hoped to come out here and be a force to reckon with, but due to mechanical circumstances out of our control it wasn't meant to be."

Query, the NASCAR Slim Jim All Pro Series point leader, heads into the season-ending event at the Metro-Dade Homestead Motorsports Complex in Homestead, Fla. on Saturday, November 14, 160 points ahead of second place Hal Goodson.
