NASCAR-FMT: Malone/Fuller Look to Martinsville

11 April 1998

The April 18 Featherlite Modified Series event at the historic Martinsville Speedway is a date that is circled in bold style in the garages of Bobby Fuller Racing. That is the next stop on the 1998 campaign of the touring division of NASCARs Oldest Series, an event that each member of the Independent Truck Service Racing team is waiting for with great anticipation. Driver Kerry Malone is ready to return to the track at Martinsville and says, Ive run at Martinsville in the past and have always run well there. Im looking forward the opportunity to get back to the track and put in a good run. Bobby will have a good setup for the track, and we think well get back to the fast pace that we had at Riverside Park the week before last. Bobby Fuller is also eager for competition on the half mile and says, Last season we took a driver that had never been to the track and nearly walked away with the pole position. Kerry has a lot of experience at Martinsville, so I think we should not only qualify well, but also be a factor in the race The team is coming off a weekend in which it missed qualifying at the New Thompson Speedway in Connecticut by two positions. Reflecting on the past weekend, Bobby Fuller says, Were disappointed, but not discouraged. The first week of the season saw some top teams go home after qualifying, and unfortunately this week it was our turn. With NASCAR not offering car owner provisionals on the Modified Tour, teams like ours who give a new driver an opportunity are at risk of going home early in a situation like this. Well get to work, and focus on doing well at Martinsville.
