European Style Microcars Squeeze Their Way into Detroit

DaimlerChrysler’s smart brand debuted in Detroit touting its fuel efficiency and economy. Despite persistent claims that it is less fuel efficient than a Prius, the smart has been well received in Europe. Even in the face of rising gasoline prices, it remains to be seen how Americans will take to the idea of microcars when the smart becomes available in the US in 2008. A typical response might be that of jalopnik.com: “Our excitement level's gone from a dizzying level of ‘meh’ to a point where we're now so excited we can barely stifle our yawns.”

Honda Revamps the Accord Coupe

Drawing comparisons to the BMW 3 series, the new Honda Accord Coupe wowed audiences in Detroit. Automobile Magazine’s blog notes that this is the first time an Accord concept has been shown at a major auto show, despite the fact that it is Honda's best-selling model in North America.
